What is pay transparency?

Pay transparency is the practice, and increasingly the legal requirement, of disclosing salary information openly: ranges in job postings, criteria for progression, and gender pay-gap reporting. The EU Pay Transparency Directive (2023/970) mandates pre-employment salary disclosure and bans salary-history questions as member states transpose it through 2026–27.
